Right-button click of your mouse on a Template or Symbol palette will make the palette as a detached floating window. Mouse wheel scroll while pressing Control key will zoom in / zoom out the current editor window by 100% step. If Shift-Control keys are pressed while scrolling, View rate will change by 10%. You can tear-off Template, Symbol, User Item tool bar. Just drag the toolbar outside the window. To move toolbar to the original position, double-click on the title bar. You may also attach it to the bottom of the main window frame. Press the Application key or Menu key, typically located on the right side of Space bar, to display the yellow Shortcut key tooltip, which allows you to select all items of Templates/Symbol palettes. We call it Magic key. Magic key feature can be turned On or Off from Edit menu. Double-click on a word to select the whole word. If you double click on the selected word again, it will select the whole line. (Double double) If you save your equation as a bitmap format such as BMP, GIF, JPG, or PNG, from Save As dialog, other people can view it without installing MathMagic fonts and useful for web contents. And the equation can be re-opened for editing by MathMagic simply by dragging it on to MathMagic editor window. Try alt-click on a fence, fraction bar, integral symbol, sum, accent, or anywhere, to select a specific part of it. This is especially useful if you need to Nudge a certain part to up/down/left/right by point for further fine tuning the equation shape of the default setting. After selecting a part of equation, press Ctrl-Alt-arrow keys to Nudge(move) the selection around. If you are using MathMagic Pro, and need to change font/size/style or other info of all ready made EPS equations, please try File -> Convert dialog for batch conversion of all equations in .eqdb folder. Please don't forget to make a backup copy of your .eqdb folder before conversion. You can change View rate from 100% to 400% with Ctrl-1 ~ Ctrl-4 shortcut, or any rate 100% ~ 3200% by 1% or 100% with Ctrl-shift-1 ~ Ctrl-shift-4. How can you move cursor to the beginning of the document? Just press Ctrl+Home key. If you are already familiar with TeX or LaTeX expressions, you may type it with a leading backslash, then press shift-return key to convert it into an equation or symbol. For example, \pi or \Delta, followed by shift-return. When you want to move cursor to the end of the line, press Ctrl+Right-Arrow key. You can select all equation, and apply Style -> Math Default (control-shift-D) command to ignore any custom setting and return to the default setting. How can you move cursor to the end of the document? Just press Ctrl+Down-Arrow key. Please turn ON Window -> "Size Info Window" to see the width, height, baseline location, and other information of the current equation you are typing. You can assign a background color to the current box where the cursor is located. Please simply click "Apply Box Background" button from "Color" floating window. Once assigned, the button will become "Remove Box Backgrund". Master background color can be assigned by clicking "Apply Full Background" button from "Color" floating window. A white color can be used for the master background if you want to make the equation non-transparent, especially for EPS file. When there are too many detached floating palettes, you can Hide or Show them all temporarily, by selecting Window -> "Hide all Detached palettes" menu or clicking the right-most icon on the Main toolbar. Palette icon too small to understand? It can be enlarged to 150% or 200% from View menu -> Palette Size submenu. The setting will be preserved over launches until changed again. Press Tab Key when you want to move cursor to the next slot. Shift-Tab key to move to the previous slot. Press Ctrl-D to redraw screen when there is un-updated image while typing or editing complex equation. Ctrl-shift-D to force apply the default Math style to the current selection. You can change the font or size of +, -, = operator symbols. Just select it and then apply any font, style or size from Font menu or Size menu. If you want to use non-Italic style Greek symbol by default, please use "MMaGreek-Regular" instead of predefined MMGreek from Style->Define Style...->U.C. Greek/L.C. Greek field. Without mouse dragging, you can select an equation block with shift-Arrow keys. You can batch-convert multiple equations or a whole folder to another format that MathMagic support(Limited number in Personal Edition). A StyleSet can also be applied to change the look and feel of the equation while conversion. Try all options in File -> Convert... dialog. You can select your equation, right-click on it, and select "Copy As Google Docs equation" menu to insert the equation into your Google Docs. If you have a URL of your Google Docs equation, you can simply paste the URL into MathMagic editor window to insert the equation without retyping. If you check "Bitmap Image format" instead of "Font based OLE" from file -> Import/Export options dialog, your equations can be displayed without used MathMagic fonts on the target computer, which is useful when you send the equations to others. You can save your equation as a bitmap based file format, such as BMP, JPEG, GIF, PNG, for a better compatibility across computers and over the internet. You can also set the "Image Size for Copy & Export" rate to 200% or more for a better quality, from Import/Export Options dialog. All Greek characters can be easily typed via Ctrl-G followed by alphabet key. Most of Greek keys are allocated with its corresponding Roman key. Frequently used Symbols are assigned by Ctrl-K based shortcut key, followed by its own unique key. Refer to the Shortcut key table in the User Guide for all available keys. Quite many templates are assigned by Ctrl-T based shortcut key, followed by its own unique key. For example, type Ctrl-T, S in turn for Sigma(Sum). Press Ctrl-H key when you want to add superscript slot to the current character or template. Press Ctrl-L key when you want to add subscript slot to the current character or template. You can change the width of space bar, Arrow head shape, Sum and Integral shape, from the Define Shape tab, poked by Ctrl-5. Don't mind making mistake of keyboard typing. You can undo typing easily with pressing Ctrl-Z shortcut key. Use a Ctrl-F shortcut key to make a standard fraction template, Ctrl-shift-F for alternate fraction. Use Macro feature if "Save As" dialog if you'd like to assign file name automatically. For example, "Math-Grade-8 {Y}{M}{D}-{#3}", "Work on {M2}-{D2} {#}". You can pre-define the folder path to save your equations from File -> Import/Export Options dialog -> "Path" tab. Once set, the Save As dialog will automatically locate this path. Press Ctrl-R shortcut key when you want to make a standard square root template. How can you change text size in MathMagic? When changing text size/font/face, MathMagic is a bit different from other word processors. Firstly, you must select an equation, with double-clicking, mouse dragging or Shift+Arrow key. Then use the font combo box in Main Toolbar or Size menu to apply your new Size. You can change template size by using Style->Define Style... command. Unlike a font size, template size can be changed by this way. You can use the MathMagic equation in most graphic applications freely. Make an equation in MathMagic and export it as EPS or WMF format. Then import the file from your graphic application, like Photoshop or Illustrator. MathMagic supports cross platform. So you can exchange the MathMagic files between MathMagic Win and Mac Editions without any problem. Use OLE feature of MathMagic to make equations in word processor like a Microsoft Word. By selecting Edit -> "Show Color in Gray" option, you can turn your colored equation into Gray scale equation without changing all the colors one by one. Once turned OFF, it will be back to Color again. MathMagic has a special Color to Gray conversion rule to have a better realistic result in Gray. You can make a Spot color when you make a New Color for EPS color separation mode. (Color EPS is supported by Pro Editions only.) You can insert "0 pt" width space from the Space template palette, to ignore the pre-formatted gaps and make it closer. You can change the zoom rate of MathMagic windows. To do this, you can use the zoom combo box in status bar or from View menu. You can set the default View rate for all new windows from the Edit->Preferences dialog, if the default 300% is not what you like. Do you have some symbols or templates that are used frequently? Don't worry. You can register them to the UserItem Toolbar, easily with alt+click on the them from the floating palette window. Or, simply drag a button from Symbol/Template Palette to UserItem toolbar. You can re-arrange the order of items in UserItem toolbar by dragging it to another location. The Clip window of MathMagic helps overcome tediousness of repeated task. Select the part you want to register as a clip, and then press Ctrl-M (Edit->Make a Clip) shortcut key or drag the selection to the Clip window. Now you can the registered clip with one click on it in the Clip window. You can close the document window easily with Ctrl-W shortcut like Internet Explorer or Mac software. Use StyleSet if you want to switch to a pre-defined set of settings fast for your complex editing environment. for example, you can create several SyleSets such as Secondary Math textbook, Answer sheet, Grade 12 Physics, or so. StyleSet saves all settings of Deine Spaing/Define Style/Define Size dialog and it is applied to the current document window all at once. Use Alt+click to remove registered Symbol or Template button from the UserItem toolbar. Try Format -> "Line Between Boxes" submenu to add a line below or above the current box when there are multiple lines of boxes. This is useful when you need to put a line for vertical division, vertical multiplication form, or a simple horizontal lined table. You can remove your License information from a computer. While holding down 'shift' key, please click Help menu -> Enter Authorization dialog command. This will enable "Remove License" button. Please note that you may not use your License again on the computer once removed. === End of Tips ===
